Perfect Trail Ahead – Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

McGrath 4:15pm

While the last 200 miles have been a Musher’s nightmare, the next stretch must be down right amazing. All mushers on the trail at this hour (4:30pm) are making speeds in the high 8 to mid 9mph. That is a pretty good tell of the trail condition and is what the Iron Dog experienced. With the melt and then just a bit of snow, the rivers are hard and fast. Expect the Yukon to be similar. Just unbelievable in terms of condition.

Another notable point is that, without exception, mushers have been singing the praises of the Teams. The dogs haven’t had nearly the issues that the Musher’s and equipment have had. Jeff King said his dogs looked great, HE was the sore one!

Weather for tonight is calling for SNOW!! A bit of snow on a hardpacked trail is a mushers dream! Temperatures are also near perfect. Looks like a fun night of mushing.
