Good Morning Race Fans!

Pete and the Team are readying to head out on the 2021 Iditarod Trail. Weather this morning at the Deshka Landing Starting Line looks to be excellent. With a very limited crew, Pete and the Team will be leaving the Starting line with Bib 3, in second position.

This year, due to Covid restrictions, Pete was limited to himself and four handlers. I bowed out, so just like you, I am relying on the online and other media outlets to view the excitement remotely.

In Alaska, check out KTUU-TV which will have the race start live beginning at 1:30pm.

Online, just head over to www.iditarod.com which will have the start live and free. (Highly recommended to get an insider subscription as well)

This may be a one of a kind race as Teams will head to Iditarod and then return to Deshka Landing for the finish. It should be exciting to see Teams traverse the Dalzell Gorge both ways and I’m sure all normal strategies are out the window as Mushers try to figure this out.

In many ways the 21 Iditarod will have a Kuskokwim flavor as Teams head up to Iditarod and the old ghost town of Flat. I’ll have plenty of stories as we move into our area and an unknown gem of history and legend. With three Teams from the Kuskokwim competing, once again the K300 can be proud of it’s program. Pete will be joined on the trail by 21 Bogus Creek 150 and K300 Champ, Richie Diehl, and Victoria Hardwick, who finished the 2019 Iditarod.

This is the pinnacle of Dogsled Racing and Pete will be right in his element. We spoke last week about mushing and why he does it. “Competition” was his answer. Putting the Team and himself up against the best in the world is what motivates him year after year. Today all the Teams get the opportunity to showcase all of the hard work, training miles, and breeding program on the biggest dogsled mushing stage in the world.

It should be a great race!

Stay tuned!

Go Team Kaiser!!
