Taking a break (for just a few moments, not planning to miss race action....) from 'Iditarod' race news, and moving for a few minutes to the topic of pets... The dogs of the Iditarod are all microchipped -- Do you microchip your pet dog? Interesting fact... Iditarod recently got a phone call at HQ because a Chihuahua was located in California and has been at a shelter..... The Chihuahua's microchip links back to the Iditarod microchip numbers. Interesting don't you think? Could be a musher's pet dog got a microchip when the huskies did or perhaps someone working with the race had their pet chipped for some reason... Anyway, if you happen to know someone missing a blonde Chihuahua that is less than 10 years old, and lives in California (yes, we know, it's a big state, it's a little dog, and a long shot to reunite the doggie to the dog's family...) but who knows, perhaps this pup will find the way back home again through all of you... We've got past records of dogs and their chip numbers so someone will start looking through the numbers and try to solve the puzzle... We'll post an image of the missing dog when we get the photo... Until then, everyone think positive that this story turns out to be a happy story! Click Like! Post your own pet images or just think positive! ...

On an unexpected stop in Galena, I was able to talk with a couple of mushers who were preparing to take the trail toward Nulato. It was a picture perfect morning for the mushers and dogs – sunny, light winds and temperatures slightly below zero. The dogs were smiling!
