On the Trail to Nome! Bib 43

A warm afternoon had 69 Teams raring to go in Willow today. We have a ton of video and photos for you, but it will be later tonight when I get them all set for web.
Pete and the Team headed out on the trail this afternoon in front of a huge crowd of mushing fans. The mood in the pit area was a mixture of nerves and anticipation, but Teams were more than ready for the task at hand. The weather was spectacular with not a cloud in the sky. Temperatures have cooled from a few days ago when it was raining, and though pretty warm, it is far better than slush.
Team Kaiser left in 43rd position after other local mushers Mike Williams Jr. of Akiak, who left in 7th, and Richie Diehl of Aniak, who left in 11th place. We will find out which was an advantage, either the early or later team, after we speak with the mushers in Nome.
Apparently a rule change has banned all phone calls during the race by mushers. We had hoped to speak with Pete during his 24 hour layover, but than won’t happen at this point.
Good luck to all the mushers in this year’s race, but especially our Trio from the West!
Sounds like a good contest! Think up a good name and the winner gets a t-shirt! Of course I get to choose, but if I like it you win! Post your name below!
Go Team Kaiser!

Team Kaiser was honored to be chosen to be the Make-A-Wish foundation Iditarider this year. Connor was our rider this year and he really enjoyed himself and we were so happy to be a part of his Iditarod Experience!

Pete and the Team gave him a ride he won’t soon forget and made sure that everything was just right for the experience. The weather cooperated and the whole day was fantastic.

Connor has heard stories about the Iditarod since he was a young boy, and he likes to watch movies about dogs with his sister, especially the show “Snow Buddies.”
Connor is thrilled to be able to ride in the 2014 Iditarod.
Special thanks to Donlin Gold for making this experience possible.

About Make-A-Wish-

Since 1986, Make-A-Wish Alaska has granted Alaskan wishes to more than 500 children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. This year, the local chapter will grant about 30 wishes, and an additional 30 wishes to kids from across the US who wish to visit Alaska as part of their wish. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can influence the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. For more information about Make-A-Wish Alaska and how you can share the power of a wish® please call 800.304.9474, visit www.alaska.wish.org<http://www.alaska.wish.org> or connect with us at www.facebook.com/makeawishakwa

Mike Williams Sr. Video Finish

Stitched together KYUK Radio Angela Denning-Barnes with our video and a bit of Insider. Delta FOURce Elder Mike Williams Sr. crosses the line. His finish was easily the most popular of all of the mushers except for the Winner with horns honking, bells jingling, and the crowd cheering. Go Mike!! Visit the Williams Family Kennel Fanpage for photos and more!
