Pete on the Road in Aniak

Tracker has Pete on the road in Aniak right behind his good friend and fellow musher Richie Diehl. We are supposed to have some photos shortly from Richie’s Dad. Will have an update soon.

Pete and the Team on the Trail to Aniak

In the excitement of the Bogus 150 Win, let’s not forget the A-Team out on the trail! Pete and the team left Kalskag in 9th place. The teams are grouped pretty closely together and it is still anyone’s race. The Tracker Map shows Pete in 8th place. The placing is a little out of order because one musher, Scott Smith, didn’t take his layover in Kalskag and went ahead to Aniak. He is in the middle of his layover and by the time it is over, many teams will have passed him. Sometimes this strategy can pay out, but most times it doesn’t. Each musher has a game plan they start out with and that’s why I am not too worried about Pete’s position right now. The teams to beat so far are the  Busers and Mackey who seem to have some good times. Striking distance is still within range for Pete and the team.

Pete was out of Kalskag at 11:05am with 14 dogs. That is just 29 minutes behind the first musher. Start time adjustments are now complete, so the order will establish itself fully after teams leave Aniak.

Go Team Kaiser!

Jennifer Peeks Team Kaiser – 2012 Bogus Creek 150 Winner – First Woman to Win!

We are so proud of Jennifer Peeks. She and the team really had no expectation of winning. The green rookie just was going to try to have a clean race and have a good time. She is the first Woman to win the Bogus Creek 150 and Team Kaiser couldn’t be happier for her. Congratulations Jennifer!!

Congratulations to Lewis Pavilla!

Our congratulations go out to Lewis Pavilla of Bad River Kennels from Kwethluk. They were the team to beat and besting them is a true accomplishment. Their dedication to the Bogus Creek 150 is truly what makes it special. I talked with Lewis after his finish and he told me he had won the 150 FOUR times! What an accomplishment! Here are a few photos of this great Musher and his wife!

Bogus Creek 150 Pit Crew

I asked Jenn about the Checkpoint at the Bogus Creek 150. Unlike other races, in the Bogus Creek 150, a team has a “Pit Crew” that gets the camp all setup for the team once they arrive. Bogus Creek is in the wild, so everything must be brought in. Tents, Food, and other supplies are brought up by the Pit Crew.

Here’s what she and Ron had to say:
