Stopped by the Kaiser dog yard early this afternoon. It is blowing quite a bit and Ron told me that he was up at 3am clearing drifts for the dogs. It is blustery and cold, but sunny and clear. Temperatures are pretty chilly and I about froze my hands just taking photos today.
Here are the dog yard visit photos.
From Janet this morning-
The wind has us on edge tonight. Havoc in the dog yard, alarm set for a 3 AM yard check for drifting snow… the force of this wind reminds me of the 2009 race where we had much warmer temps and the race got delayed. It was rain and so slick you couldn’t get around. The back wall of one of our buildings blew out that night, and everyone slept in the living room. upstairs was too noisey…noisey again tonight.
Good Luck to them!! It won’t be raining this year. Cold, Windy, and Clear this morning. The wind is kicking snow up and probably causing drifts in open areas. We haven’t had much wind this month, so there is a lot of snow to move around.

Hometown: Bethel, AK
Local Bethel musher, Pete Kaiser, is the 17th person to register for the 2012 K300. Pete looks to capture his first K300 title after finishing a career high 3rd in last year’s race. The 2012 race will be Pete’s fourth attempt at K300 glory. Pete finished 6th in 2009 earning him Rookie of the Year and Best in the West awards. Pete also received the sportsmanship award in 2010. Pete has twice finished the Iditarod, placing a career best 8th in 2011. Pete also scored a breakthrough victory in the 2011 Kobuk 440. Pete is a former champion of the Bogus Creek 150 (2008) and has also competed in the Akiak Dash.
The Kuskokwim 300 is less than 24 hours away. The musher’s drawing was this evening in Bethel and Pete drew 12th. This further back, but that is actually a very good position in this race.
For those that don’t know, the Kuskokwim 300 is the Premiere Mid-Distance Race in the World! The top mushers from around the State are in town.
18 Mushers will head out on the trail tomorrow evening and we will be there to post the photos from the Start. Temperatures are cold and windy, but the trail is in fine shape.
I’ll be posting more soon so Stay Tuned!!
