Starting Line activities always take a great deal of time. We have great photos and lots of things to tell, but before you hit the hay for the evening, just a short update.
First- Happy Birthday to Janet, Pete’s Mom, who celebrated her birthday watching her son, Peter, head out for his 10th Iditarod. When Pete left college and came home to the Kaiser kitchen table to tell his parents he wanted to mush dogs, they never imagined he would put forth such a long term life changing effort. It has been such a ride for Janet and Ron, but to spend the warm day with family and friends had to have been pretty awesome for Janet on her special day.
We also had cake, ice cream, Doug Dorland’s famous pizza, and a birthday serenade in Norwegian from the Wikstrands. Happy Birthday Janet!
The day was warm, the dogs were hot, and Pete was relaxed. It was a good day. Due to lake conditions, the Starting Line was moved up the hill and Teams made their way down to a huge crowd cheering them on! It was a beautiful spot in the trees. Just a great place to see the Teams leave and head off on the Iditarod Trail.
At this hour, Pete was 5th into Yentna and is resting his Team after a 6 hour run.
There are great photos and videos to share, but they will have to wait until morning when we will begin our own virtual journey to Nome!
Welcome Aboard! Go Team Kaiser!
