Kaiser K300 Update – Midday Saturday

aniak-1

Aniak Weather 1:48pm – Saturday 1/19/2013

16 teams have completed their layover and are now on their way to Aniak.

Rohn Buser left at 10:32am followed by 11 mushers that within that hour. By 11:30 the top eleven teams were rested and back on the trail.

Pete and the Team left Kalskag at 11:21am with all 14 dogs. The teams are tightly matched with the elapsed time between Tuluksak and Kalskag of the top 11 teams within 30 minutes of the leader. At this point though Rohn is leading the race, anything can happen.

GPS shows that Pete is holding in 11th place at this hour. All of the top 10 teams are racing together in a 4 mile stretch.

I am discounting the two teams that did not take their layover in Kalskag. (Berington, Redington) They show in the two first places on the leader board, but have to take their layover and will end up in the pack later today.

The shootout appears to be between King and Rohn Buser and Tony Browning at this point.

Aniak Weather looks pretty good right now. Visibility is good and temperatures are definitely warmer than yesterday. So its going to be all dog and musher for awhile as weather and trail appear to be good.
