Through Rohn and Resting

Update- Pete and the Team into Rohn at 22:15.

After they rest a bit, Pete and the team will head out for Farewell. The valley faces the Northwest and the Upper Kuskokwim valley. At Farewell a left turn to start towards Nikolai. One thing that surprised me when I was flying over in the fall time, the Iditarod trail isn’t just a winter trail. In the last photo you can see it. It is a traditionally used trail that is very easy to follow from the air. Miner, Dog team, Mail hauler– it really is one of the last vestiges of history. Like the Oregon trail that brought folks west across America, the Iditarod trail has brought it all across this great State.

Most of the teams have been taking a 4 hour layover in Rohn before heading out towards Farewell and Nikolai. Let’s hope for calmer winds and an enjoyable ride!
